SERVICE / RENTALS

Road Construction & Event Rentals

Rent barricades, water-filled barriers, temporary fencing, portable traffic signals, drums, signs and arrow boards for work zones and special events.

The A-1 Barricades truck and equipment trailer loaded with drums and barricades

Most traffic-control needs are temporary by definition. A paving project runs three weeks, a festival closes a street for a weekend, a utility cut needs a lane closed until the patch cures. Buying devices for that is money spent on something you then have to store.

A-1 Barricades rents the full range of work-zone and event equipment across the Chattanooga area, with our own trucks and drivers to get it there — including water-filled barriers, temporary fencing and portable traffic signals, the three things contractors most often assume they have to source out of Nashville or Atlanta.

We are a pre-approved TDOT subcontractor with ATSSA certified staff, so a prime contractor can put us on a state job without waiting on an approval cycle, and the equipment recommendation you get is made against the standard the inspector will check.

Road construction and utility work

Type I, II and III barricades, water-filled barriers, temporary fencing, portable traffic signals, drums, cones, channelizers, work-zone signs and stands, arrow boards and message boards — for lane closures, full closures, paving, excavation and utility cuts.

Special events and street closures

Bike-rack pedestrian barriers, temporary fencing with printed or plain screen, low-profile water-filled barrier, barricades and signage for festivals, races, parades, block parties and venue traffic management.

Water-filled barriers

Interlocking plastic barrier shipped empty and filled on site — for lane separation, site perimeters, pedestrian protection and event boundaries. Faster to place and reconfigure than concrete, and the only practical way to get barrier mass onto a job that is going to move next week. Tell us whether the plan calls for crash-tested barrier or a longitudinal channelizing device and we will match it.

Temporary fencing

Six-foot panel fence, bases, couplers, gates and windscreen for construction sites, demolition, storm response and event perimeters. Freestanding in weighted bases, so nothing gets driven into a slab or a parking lot and there is nothing to restore afterwards.

Portable traffic signals

Trailer-mounted signal pairs for one-lane, two-way operation on bridge work, culvert replacement, slide repair, paving and long utility cuts. Solar-powered, radio-linked, with fixed-time, vehicle-actuated and manual control — and nobody standing in the live lane for the duration.

Delivery and pickup

We run our own trucks and trailers. Equipment arrives where the job is and leaves when the job ends.

Short-term and long-term

A weekend event and a multi-month project are both normal. Tell us the dates and we will scope the equipment.

FAQ

Rentals questions

What traffic control equipment can I rent?
Barricades of all three MUTCD types, water-filled barriers, temporary fencing, portable traffic signals, pedestrian bike-rack barriers, traffic drums, cones and channelizing devices, work-zone signs with stands, and lighted arrow boards and message boards. Call (423) 265-3054 with your dates and the type of work.
Do you rent water-filled barriers, temporary fencing and portable traffic signals?
Yes — all three are rented by the job and delivered on our own trucks. Water-filled barrier for lane separation, perimeters and pedestrian protection; six-foot panel fence with bases, gates and screen for sites and events; and trailer-mounted portable traffic signals for one-lane, two-way operation. Call (423) 265-3054 with your dates and what the traffic-control plan specifies.
Is A-1 Barricades approved to work on TDOT projects?
Yes — A-1 is a pre-approved subcontractor with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, so a prime contractor can bring us onto a state highway project without waiting on an approval cycle. Our staff also hold ATSSA certifications, which is the industry standard for the people specifying and setting up temporary traffic control.
Do you deliver rental equipment to the job site?
Yes — A-1 Barricades runs its own trucks and equipment trailers, so rentals are delivered and picked up rather than left for you to haul. Confirm delivery details for your specific location when you book.
How far in advance should I reserve equipment for an event?
As early as you can, particularly for event season and for large quantities of pedestrian barrier. Multiple events often compete for the same equipment on the same weekend, and reserving early is how you guarantee the count you planned around.
Do I need a permit to close a street?
Almost certainly, and it comes from the jurisdiction that owns the road — the city, the county or the state DOT. Permits commonly require an approved traffic-control plan showing device types and placement. We supply the equipment; the permit and the approved plan are between you and the agency, and it is worth starting that process well before your dates.
Can I rent equipment for just one day?
Yes. Single-day and weekend rentals are routine for events, and short-duration rentals are common for utility and repair work.

Need gear on site?

Call for a quote, to reserve rentals, or to check stock. The people who answer the phone know the equipment.
